Last Night - Visitor's Short Sad Love Poem

by Francis X. Reilly (Corky Pflegmhocker)

Last night, when it was snowing,
I went out,
as we'd have done,
to have dinner at Maxine's,
just down the road.
And Sally Ann, the waitress
that we've known so many years,
tried to smile, but in her eyes
the sadness showed.

I'm quivering all over. Such is the emotional impact of your lovely poem. Tears are squirting out of my eyes!

MY GOD! Sally Anne can't hide it! She sees you there alone and it catches her breath! "NAY! NAY!" She sobs to herself. And then she repeats the non-verbal exclamation, "NAY! NAY!"

EGAD! The saddest poem of all time! What brilliant intellectuality! O! O! Be still my four-chambered heart!
